The NZL Board are pleased to announce the appointment of two key positions in the Women’s High Performance Operations.
First is a new position of General Manager (GM). This role is designed to help the various High Performance teams, to provide direction and management of the NZL High Performance programme plus importantly to take some of the load off the respective team Head Coaches.
The second position is the Head Coach (HC) for the Women’s Senior Team to participate in the Asia Pacific Qualifiers in January. With the introduction of the GM role the focus of the coach can be directly purely at the team, growing the skill level of the players and getting the team ready to have the best chance of qualifying for the World Lacrosse Championships in 2026.

The new GM is no stranger to New Zealand Lacrosse, Casey McLain. Having participated as a player and coach in a number of World events, most recently as HC at the last Women’s Worlds, he brings a wealth of experience at the highest level. The NZL board are excited for Casey to step into this new role to further enhance New Zealand Lacrosse. |

NZL are also excited to welcome new HC Shannon McHale. Shannon is a vastly experienced NCAA coach as well as having been at the last world championship assisting Switzerland. Shannon, outside of her current commitments to NCAA coaching, will work closely with Casey to deliver the programme.
Shannon has spent over 23 years as head coach for various NCAA teams, recently 3 years at Colorado Mesa University where she took the team to share the regional championship with a 31-17 winning record. She understands the requirements of World Events having been assistant coach to Switzerland at the 2022 Worlds Lacrosse Championship. Her coaching skills are enhanced by a master’s degree in exercise and sport sciences plus sport psychology. NZL are looking forward to Shannon also spending time with the regions.
